It originates in the Appalachian Mountains in North Carolina , where its upper course, above the mouth of the Uwharrie River , is known as the Yadkin River. It is extensively dammed for flood control and hydroelectric power. The Pee Dee region of South Carolina, composed of the northeastern counties of the state, was also named after the tribe. In fact, today the Pee Dee Indian Tribe still occupies some of their ancestral lands, although the tribe only consists of just over enrolled members.

History[ edit ] The region was the homeland of the Pee Dee Native Americans , a people who originally occupied the area as part of the South Appalachian Mississippian Culture from about to , leaving some centers for unknown reasons. The people reside in the area to this day, with the seat of the tribal government having been located in neighboring Marlboro County since On the coast, the economy is dominated by tourism , and features beaches, amusement parks , shopping, fishing, and golf. The area has become a major retirement center in the United States, in part because of its low cost of living, mild weather, and its many golf courses. Inland is a belt featuring rivers, marshes , carolina bays , and sandy rises where forestry is predominant.
He completed a fine arts studio diploma program from UCFV Abbotsford in British Columbia and has explored various programs in art history, archaeology, anthropology and native studies at the University of Saskatchewan. Kevin's current works, often depicting mother and child with floral motifs, emphasize the importance of family, tradition and respect for his culture and heritage. He says, "These paintings are a triburte to my mother, who was my guide, my grandmother for her strength in cultural beliefs, and my children for the inspiration they give me.
